While clear aligners have quickly become a preferred method of straightening teeth today, especially amongst adults ad teens, clear aligners do require quite a bit more care than their more traditional counterparts.

In order to help ensure you are properly caring for your clear aligners, Dr. Alamir and Beauty Smile Orthodontics has the following tips to help you:

Proper Cleaning

Cleaning your teeth twice a day is a must, and so is cleaning your clear aligners, which means that you should be performing regular cleanings daily. Be sure to follow Dr. Alamir’s instructions, avoiding the use of harsh cleaners and the use of mouthwash on your aligners, since these can damage or tint them.

Proper Storage

It is important that you ensure you are keeping your clear aligners in a cool and dry place, storing them in the appropriate container provided to you by your orthodontist. In order to prevent losing your aligners, be sure to consistently put them the same place, which will help you to easily remember where you left them.

Things To Avoid

  • Chewing Gum- Just like with its traditional metal braces, or any other type of braces, chewing gum with clear aligners is a big no-no, especially since it can damage aligners, making them not effective in their treatment.
  • Food & Drinks-  Eating and drinking while wearing your aligners can cause bacteria and food to get trapped, increasing your risk of cavities and decay and drinking hot liquids can cause aligners to distort, causing irreversible damage to them. This is why it is important that you ensure you are removing your aligners when eating and drinking, avoiding potential damage to your teeth, as well as your aligners.
