As you begin to become accustomed to the constant feeling of metal on your teeth, it is important you also begin to establish a daily mouth cleaning and braces care routine. In order for your braces treatment to properly work to its full effect and reduce the amount of time you have to spend with braces, there are several steps and recommendations you should be certain to do.

  • Brush your teeth: Yes, you have heard this hundreds of times already, however, it is reiterated so much because it is so important. You really don’t want to have any dental issues such as cavities and what not while you also have braces. As long as you consistently brush your steps the full two minutes and brush every tooth, you will be in good hands.
  • Floss: We all know brushing your teeth is crucial to your dental health, however, to further ensure you avoid all complications you should always floss your teeth once in the morning and once at night. This way, all of the food from the past days will be removed before being able to sit in your mouth and decay your teeth.
  • Chew with back teeth: If you are like me, you already chew with your back teeth and molars, however, there are many foods in which you will naturally begin to chew with your front teeth. With braces, you are running the chance of destroying the brackets mounted onto your teeth. As you may have guessed, breaking a bracket reduces the effectiveness of braces, possibly increasing your time with them on.
  • Wear your headgear and rubber bands: Your orthodontist tells you to use the headgear and rubber bands for a reason, so it’s smart to listen to them. If you choose to ignore these instructions, the odds are very high that your time with braces on will be increased.

Let’s face it: no one really enjoys wearing braces for an extended period of time. So naturally, you should follow every instructional step given by your orthodontist. If you have any questions or would like to schedule an appointment, feel free to contact us at any time!
