There are a variety of issues braces wearers may experience at some point during their treatment. In order to help you, Beauty Smile Orthodontics wants you to know what to do in the event you come across one of these potential issues while wearing your braces.

Broken Brackets: There may be times when a bracket may either break, or come off the tooth completely, especially if the adhesive fails. While this is not typically considered an emergency, it is important to schedule an appointment with your orthodontist to ensure that your bracket is repaired as soon as possible.

Loose Spacers or Bands: It is important to contact your orthodontist if you are experiencing any issues with your spacer or bands. Be sure to try to save any loose bands for repair.

Protruding Wires: Wires may occasionally move out of place, often resulting in protruding wires. These may cause discomfort from the poking at cheeks or lips. Orthodontic wax is a good way to remedy this issue until your orthodontist can fix it.

Mouth Irritation: Braces can be difficult to get used to initially. They can often cause irritation and soreness to the lips and cheeks. While you will get used to wearing braces, by using orthodontic wax you can ease any discomfort you may be experiencing. Oral antiseptics are also a good way to numb and discomfort or sores you may have.

General Discomfort: The first few days of braces can be uncomfortable. This is very common, and can easily be treated with over-the-counter pain relievers. Be sure to consult with you orthodontist in order to determine which medication they feel is best for you.
